Hutchinson and Skype will co-brand a VoIP service in Hong Kong that takes advantage of Hutchinson’s extensive fiber-to-the-building fixed infrastructure.
Skype Technologies SA and Hutchison Global Communications Limited (HGC) announced the creation of a “HGC-Skype Portal” to be operational next month in Hong Kong, through which customers can download Skype software and make Skype calls.
The HGC-Skype portal will offer Hong Kong users free and unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls worldwide, and the pre-paid SkypeOut service which enables users to call any fixed or mobile phone anywhere at special rates. Skype calls are end-to-end encrypted for privacy.
This co-branding extends Hutchinson’s partnership strategy for its broadband infrastructure, and follows a recent broadband / pay-TV collaboration. HGC is the first fixed telecom network operator to have reached a co-branding agreement with Luxembourg-based Skype.
Skype’s P2P technology delivers the following features to HGC users: a user-built global contact directory; instant messaging with cross platform messaging ability; conference calling; presence; loging; customization of image display, ring tones, and call alert options; file transfer; the ability to sign in to a Skype account anywhere in the world; and multiple Skype accounts on one computer.
