sonusWebEx plans to migrate its audio conferencing capabilities to IP so that it can combine content and voice seamlessly, and develop additional features.

Sonus Networks, Inc (Nasdaq: SONS) announced that its Open Services Architecture (OSA), including the GSX9000 Open Services Switch and the Insignus Softswitch, will be used by WebEx Communications, Inc to deliver new IP-based integrated content and audio conferencing services.

WebEx Communications, Inc is already a market leader in IP-based, on-demand web meeting applications.

The Sonus enhancements and expanded VoIP architecture will go into WebEx’s MediaTone Network, currently used by more than 12,000 businesses around the world

This network is already designed for secure, real-time web collaboration. Sonus’ voice infrastructure solutions, including media gateways, softswitches and network management systems, are carrier-class, and open the possibility for further feature development within MediaTone.
